Time Out Penang Food & Beverage Guide Launch @ Gurney Paragon Mall Penang

Hunza Group Executive Director, Ms Khor Tze Ming, Penang State Exco for Tourism Development, YB Danny Law, and Mongoose Publishing Chief Content Office, Mr Matt Bellotti.

Back in May, I was invited to St.Jo's Level 1 at Gurney Paragon Mall to witness the official launching of Time Out Penang Food and Beverage Guide.

If you are the kind of person that always have no idea of where to have your lunch or dinner, or to have high tea with your friend at Gurney Paragon Mall, here's a good news for you! You need not worry anymore as Gurney Paragon Mall has just published their first ever comprehensive food and beverage guide.

The launching ceremony was officiated by the Penang State Exco For Tourism Development, YB Danny Law, Hunza Group Executive Director, Ms. Khor Tze Ming, Mongoose Publishing Chief Content Officer, Mr. Matt Bellotti, with the witnesses by Gurney Paragon Mall's F&B outlets' owners and representatives, food bloggers and the media.

Mongoose Publishing Chief Content Officer, Mr. Matt Bellotti giving his speech.

Gurney Paragon Mall's food and beverage guide covers all the food and beverage outlets in the mall, from the world-renowned franchise brand like TGI Friday's, Starbucks to cosmopolitan local outlets such as Ben's ad Brussels Beer Cafe. The booklet is pocket size and it's user-friendly. You can get information such as outlets' business hours, contact numbers, websites and even the price rating in the guide.

Every entry has been reviewed by the Time Out team to present the most comprehensive guide possible to the food and beverage treats at Gurney Paragon Mall.

On the same day, Time Out Penang 2014/15 annual magazine is also being launched and is now opened for sale to the public. The magazine provides an array of information such as the best place to shop in Penang, the best heritage sites, the best education institutions and include all the best food you can find in Penang!

There was a Penang Laksa Eating Competition, followed by Penang Laksa Cooking Competition after the launching of the food and beverage guide. Each contestant had to finish a bowl of 1kg Laksa as fast as they could in order to win the grand prize!

I find that the Gurney Paragon Mall's food and beverage guide and the Time Out Penang annual magazine are very useful to me. I can just look through both the guide and magazine when I am out of idea of where to hang out with my friends or as a tour guide when I friends travel in Penang.

Weekend Specialties & A La Carte Menu @ Sarkies Corner, E&O Hotel Penang

Chef Henry

Sarkies Corner is located at the heritage wing @ E&O Hotel Penang. It is a colonial coffee shop that offers local and international cuisine á la carte. Previously, it was a place for buffet, but now it offers A La Carte while the buffet had moved to the new wing.

I blogged about desserts that The Bakery at E&O Hotel offers in the last post.

Let's see what Sarkies Corner offers for Weekend Local Specialties.
It opens every Saturday and Sunday from 12.00noon to 3.00pm. RM20++ per dish.

Week 1: Roasted Chicken and Duck Rice
Popiah and Pie Tee
Sarkies Corner is famous of their roasted duck.

Week 2: Laksa Lemak
Bubur Pulut Hitam
Laksa Lemak, in other word, my family calls it Nyonya Laksa. We thinks that the laksa lemak soup taste like otak-otak tho.

Week 3: Penang Prawn Mee
Rojak Buah Buahan
Everyone got attracted by the big prawns! I immediately took one once it's served. xP

Week 4: Nasi Lemak
Ice Kacang
Look! The Ice Kacang even has banana!

Now for A La Carte Menu at Sarkies Corner!
It operates from 11.00am to 11.00pm everyday.

Char Koay Teow
which was wrapped with a banana leaf.

Tadahhh! Char Koay Teow with crab meat!! *sorry for the blur photo, I didnt realise it and didnt retake :/*
Just like those typical Char Koay Teow out there, it consists of wok fried flat rice noodles, dark soya sauce and chicken egg or duck egg.

Beef Rendang
Another must try local food which consists of local spices beef stew, coconut milk, chili and lemongrass.

Mee Goreng Mamak
It consists of wok fried yellow noodles, prawn, chicken meat, chicken egg, beansprout, hard beancurd, potatoes, peanut sauce.
However, it's a little too salty to my liking.

American Beef Burger
One of my favourite! I like the juicy beef patty! :D The burger consists of cheese, mayonnaise, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion rings, gherkins, lettuce, sesame seed bun, chicken egg.

Grilled Grass Fed Beef Sirloin
with wild mushroom ragout, tomato relish and shallot sauce

Spaghetti Pomodoro
Oh, tomato spaghetti serves with olives :D
Tagliatelle Carbonara
with roasted chicken breast, mushroom, cream. However, it wasn't that creamy as I expected.

Koay Teow Soup
flat rice noodles, rich chicken broth, fish balls, fish cakes, chicken meat, choy sum

Seasonal Tropical Fruits

The Bakery @ Sarkies Corner, E&O Hotel Penang

Hello pretties and handsome sekalian! :D
How's your day? Have you taken your meal? Are you feeling full now?
No matter what, I think that you will have the love/hate feeling towards me after reading this blogpost, but it's okay dear, Imma still gonna tempt you. :P

Let me bring you to The Bakery @ Sarkies Corner, E&O Hotel Penang. You will definitely love the place because it has various kinds of yummy desserts and the environment there is really cozy.

note that Sarkies Corner is at the heritage wing.

Look! All the cakes and desserts are waving at you, dessert lovers! :D
Put your hands up if you love desserts! I bet most of you do. ;)

The Bakery - Cakes and Pastries Straight from the Oven!

The Bakery operates daily from 11am to 9pm at RM12++ per slice of cake. Order a cup of hot beverage with a slice of cake from the pastry counter and you can enjoy the deal at RM18++. The deal is valid for dine-in only. They have Happy Hour which you can enjoy 50% off bakery items from 6pm onwards. In other words, they will not serve overnight leftover desserts!

Baked Cheese Cake
Looking at the colourful decoration itself already makes me feel happy! The cheese taste just right, wouldn't feel greasy at all.

Tiramisu
Instead of using cocoa powder as the topping like those typical tiramisu, the chef used thin slices of chocolate as the topping!

Chocolate Banana Cake
Chocolate and banana is always one of the best combination. It tastes really good and the combination is just right to my liking.

Dark Chocolate Mousse
This is my favorite of all! So excited when I see this cause I am a loyal chocolate fans! I love it cause the chocolate taste just right, not too sweet nor too bitter(cause it's dark chocolate). It makes me feel so happy after eating it, chocolate is always the best solution to cheer me!

Mango Chill Cheese Cake
Fyi, I am also a mango lover! Loving the smooth and soft cheese with mango topping, also it doesn't makes you feel greasy at all. :)

Noisettines

Pavlova
For those that like sweet and sour desserts. The sour strawberries and blueberries as the topping and the crust below is crispy outside but soft and sweet inside.

Lemon Meringue

Choc Eclair and Berry Pavlova
I like the Choc Eclair too! Chocolate and strawberry is also a perfect combination.

Hazelnut Cream Puff

Muffins

Croissant

Scones with raisins.

Chef Naza told us that his objective is simple, to let us enjoy eating the cake even till the last scope. He also emphasized that he used more fruits, less egg white and high quality ingredients to make all the cakes and desserts.

Barista @ Vistana Hotel, Penang

#cotd dressed up for food review! :)

Vistana Hotel, which is located at Bukit Jambul, Penang went through a complete facelift, promising a brand new experience to its guests.

One of the new upgraded facility at Vistana Hotel is Barista - the grab and go coffee bar. The small kiosk is located near to the main entrance, on the left of the hotel lobby. It provides 24/7 service, in other words, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are sofa, two TVs and computers with Internet access in two spaces - HUB 247, in front of the coffee bar.

Most of us thinks that Barista in a hotel usually provides services only for their in-house guests. Guess what? Publics are allowed to enjoy the services provided by Barista at Vistana Hotel Penang too! Since it provides 24/7 service, you can consider to drop by at the Barista to have a cup of hot chocolate if you have sleepless night.

Crave for local food? They have Nasi Lemak which is at RM10.
The packaging is designed for takeaways. It's suitable for those rushing to work or to school.
The Nasi Lemak comes with a rendang drumstick, rendang gravy, cucumber, eggs and peanuts. I like the rendang gravy, but it's slightly more spicy than I expected and the rice was a little too dry and hard for me.

However, you can also go for Local 2Go set meals(RM13) which includes :-
-Nasi Lemak or Mee Siam,
-Curry Puff,
-Coffee, Tea or Juice

Another option for you if you don't feel like taking rice in the morning, Mee Siam. Spot the 3 big prawns on top? They are bouncy and it's definitely a good combination between the big prawns with Mee Siam and julienned egg.

I love the curry puff too!

Prefer to go for something light and healthy? Healthy 2Go set is the one!

Healthy 2Go set(RM13) includes :-
-Yogood Energy Bar
- Fruit of the Day
- Danish Pastry
- Choice of Yogurt
- Coffee, Tea or Juice

There are 5 types of Sandwiches that are priced at RM11 available as well.

Egg Mayo - Wholemeal bread, egg salad, lettuce
Roman Chicken Caesar - Wholemeal bread, grilled chicken, cheese, lettuce, ceaser dressing
Creamy Tuna - Croissant, tuna, lettuce, mayonnaise
Classic Corned Beef - Ciabatta bread, corned beef, rocket, lettuce, gherkins, mayonnaise
Crunchy Wrap (Vegetarian) - Flour tortilla, mixed lettuce, beans, bell peppers, carrot, avocado

My favorite is the Classic Corned Beef. The corned beef wasn't dry, and the ingredients mixed well for my liking.

You can find 4 types of Salads at the Barista too!

Mixed Green Salad(RM10)
Thai Papaya Salad(RM10) – Prawns, lime, chilli
Soba Noodle Salad(RM10) – Seaweed, sesame soy dressing
Rojak Buah(RM8)

I personally like the Rojak Buah which includes varieties of tropical fruits such as Starfruit, Water Apple, Apple Guava and Pineapple.

Their Signature Crushes (RM11), from left Vibes, Verve and Value
Vibes - Watermelon, Lychee, Orange
Verve - Tropical Mix, Mango, Banana
Value - Apple, Lychee, Lime, Carrot, Cucumber

I was given Value. It taste sweet and slightly sour, most girls will surely like this. Besides, the drinks are healthy too!

Smoothies (RM10) Mixed Berries, Banana, Mix and Match

Vanilla Frappe(RM10) on the left while Chocolate Frappe(RM10) on the right

Caramel Latte (RM10)

Espresso (RM6)

Cabernet Sauvignon (RM18 per glass/ RM80 per bottle)

Lastly, besides coffee, tea or juice, you can find alcoholic drinks there too.
Beers - Carlsbery(RM13) / Asahi(RM15)
Red Wine - Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot (RM18 per glass/ RM 80 per bottle)
White Wine - Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay (RM18 per glass/ RM 80 per bottle)
